We have curated our biggest in-cinema programme to date with 135 films across eight cinemas over five days around London. Over half of this year’s programme is female-led films and we open and close with two incredible features by women directors.

For this year’s festival, we determined early on to foreground women’s films and stories as well as selecting films with standout music scores and sound designs.

We were also inspired by this year’s Refugee Week theme: Courage, which became the overarching theme of this edition. The courage it takes to make a film in the first place and to tells stories that shine a light on the courage of others, has helped us make our selection from almost 800 films by emerging filmmakers from the UK and around the globe.

ABOUT THE NIGHT
In the wake of a seismic political revolution and a devastating flood, a remote village in Bangladesh becomes the battleground for survival, love, and justice. Partha, the son of impoverished Jatra artists, faces the collapse of his family’s livelihood as his village grapples with the dual blows of natural disaster and political turmoil.

This UK premiere marks the debut feature from Mohammad Touqir Islam, made in the aftermath of the devastating floods and the July Revolution of 2022 with a largely untrained cast of actors. The film is a cinematic treat with stunning images, compelling narrative and wonderful music. We are delighted to be welcoming the director to a special Q&A following the screening.
